I have an addiction.
It may require an intervention.
Or at the very least a 12 step programme.
I'll give you a hint where my addiction lies....
They bring me confidence that the world is not such a harsh place....
They make me want to be a better woman....
I've even been known to sleep with them next to my bed.
{ Susie at The Mill House - we understand each other, don't we?}
I even quite like the ones that I've put together myself.
They bring forth a sense of efficiency and competency that is not entirely earned.
{Thank you kikki.K....your stationery rocks.}
My very first.....you always have a special place in your heart for your first.
A family heirloom in the making.
From my mother's loving hand.
{and from one of my wicked children's toddler hand}
I make this every Easter for our annual Easter egg hunt at the local park.
Think chocolate, cinnamon and cream cheese icing.
It makes up for anything you may have sacrificed for Lent.
From our church recipe book.
Funny how this book gets used just about more than any of the other glossies.
{Can you picture me cooking this with one hand, answering the phone with the other and then scribbling down email addresses that I've needed? I never have a notepad when I need it!}
I love that we have Miriam's Oma's oatmeal cake and Robyn's scones.
{Just take a second and look at the topping recipe for that oatmeal cake....I can sense a post coming up..}
I know these women and I love to think they've shared a piece of their family history with us. Robyn is a retired missionary and has made scones up the yin-yang, so you can trust this one.
But these books also have their place.
{I bought this book purely because of the cover. I have hidden shallows.}
Even if just for the banana bread that looks, tastes and smells like the one at the cafe.
It's the cinnamon AND ginger that I think make the difference.
{Gratuitous banana bread crust shot....just in case you missed it}
Can you smell it?
Thank you banana bread....until we meet again{Sigh..}
In fact, this post has convinced me that I do not, in fact, need an intervention.
What I possibly might need, however, is a new Bundt tin. My current one is too tricky to grease and I've just read this fantastic recipe......
THE HUMMINGBIRD BAKERY BANANA BREAD
270g soft light brown sugar
2 eggs
200g peeled bananas, mashed
280g plain flour
1 tspn baking powder
1 tspn bicarbonate of soda
1 tspn ground cinnamon
1 tspn ground ginger
140g unsalted butter, melted
Preheat oven to 170oC (325oF) Gas 3
Put the sugar and eggs in a freestanding electric mixer and beat until well incorporated.
Beat in mashed bananas.
Add the flour, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda, cinnamon and ginger to the sugar/egg mixture. Mix it thoroughly.
Pour in melted butter and beat until well mixed.
Pour mixture into loaf tin and smooth over with a palette knife.
Bake in oven for about 1 hour or until firm to the touch.

Thanks for all your generous and witty comments this week, you are all simply fab.
I'm so glad you haven't completely disowned me for my tablecloth forgetting ways.
Happy Weekend!
