Tarte Sex Kitten Eyeshadow Palette

Tarte Sex Kitten Eyeshadow Palette

Me-ow, would you look at this beauty!

I will admit that I bought this last month on impulse because Tarte had a 5x point deal at Ulta, and I am trying to accumulate as much points as possible as a member. Then, I didn't touch it for a while. In fact, I was starting to have buyer's remorse, wondering, why did I even get this? I was contemplating selling it or using it for a giveaway. It was starting to gather dust.

The Tarte Sex Kitten Palette is $29, and has 8 shades. The shade secret contains more product than the others because it doubles as a highlighter. I don't like to use it as a highlighter though because it is very shimmery. Instead, I wear it on my inner lid.

Packaging wise, the palette is made out of cardboard and comes with a mirror. It's small and thin, which makes it easy to travel with. I also love the scent: it smells like marshmallows, like the Tartelette in Bloom Palette.

secret (pearl highlight)
rawr (matte ivory)
sly (matte light nude)
paw (matte light brown)
feline (shimmery taupe)
cunning (satin rose gold)
prowl (matte deep navy)
wildcat (matte deep brown)

Beware that these shadows pick up a lot of product, and they have a lot of fallout. In the photo, notice how there's powder all over. They are extremely pigmented though.

I'm glad I didn't get rid of this palette because I fell in love with it the first time I used it! The shades may seem boring at a glance, but once you play around with it you can create stunning looks. You can be more more conservative with this palette and create safe, work-friendly looks. In fact, I used this palette for my last 2 interviews with the place that hired me, instead of my usual Too Faced Natural Matte palette (maybe this palette is good luck?) and I even used the shimmery shades, feline and cunning on my lid. Or you can create a sultry, purr-worthy smokey eye. These shades are a lot more cool-toned, which is something you don't see often with the warm, golden eye trend.

I usually swipe sly from lid to brow-bone as a base. I like blending secret and cunning together on my lid (or leave it as sly). For the crease, I use paw, and I create an outer-V shape with feline. I line my upper and lower lashes with either prowl or wildcat, but they can be used as an outer-V shade for a more dramatic look.

I also like how there are only 8 shades. Not too much, but not too little. Just right. I love my 12–20 shade palettes (like the Too Faced Chocolate Bars), but sometimes having that many shades can be a bit overwhelming and I always feel like I have to create a new look. With this palette I know exactly what look to create and I can tweak it a little bit, taking it from day to night. It's easy to use, safe, and anything but boring.

The only thing I don't like or use is the shade rawr. I don't see it as a necessity. It would've been better to have a brown shade that's in between paw and wildcat.

Unfortunately, this palette is no longer available at Ulta or Sephora because it's limited edition. You can still get it at the Tarte website here. Hurry before they're gone forever!
