In my series of cool blonde dyes to put over brunette hair: meet Herbatint.
I spotted this natural hair dye on an online pharmacy website and wanted to give it a try. I hadn't seen it in real life so I took a complete gamble. It was just one of the rare shades that explicitaly said it is "ash" so it was fine by me.
When it arrived there was one problem, there was no color chart on the box. Sigh. I should have known. I'm the only person in the world stupid enough to risk using a hair dye where you won't even know what the result is... Sounds like me.
Anyway, I used it. It smelled a bit strong and it dripped. This is why people use drugstore dyes rather than this "natural" stuff. It is usually not very practical and I have my doubts about the "natural" part. I was also super nervous as I didn't know exactly what effect it would have on my dyed light brown hair. With all the dark blond dyes so far I have had charts on the box so I know what I can expect and to be sure I can use it on my shade, but not now.
While the dye was working into my hair, I looked in the mirror and it looked like my hair was going to looked super bleached and brassy, so I rinsed it off immediately.
After blow drying, the result was not all bad. It did look nice and ashy. But the ends were darker. I felt like the result was patchy, even though I had left it in long enough. Also, the added fear of not knowing what the result could be, is not worth using this natural product specifically.
At the moment I am still balancing between my favourite light ash brown and dark ash blonde shades from the drugstores:
Garnier Belle Color 4 Natural Dark Ash Blonde,
L'Oreal Excellence Cream 6 Dark Blonde,
Poly Palette Noble Browns 536 Light Ash Brown and
Poly Palette Intensive Oil Care 500. You can find my reviews and pictures of all of these dyes on my blog.
