I can't wait for "Drive," from Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn (the guy behind the ultraviolent "Pusher" trilogy, prison fighting biopic "Bronson" and last summer's overlooked art house Viking tale "Valhalla Rising"). Ryan Gosling is a stunt man who moonlights as a getaway driver for criminals. Carey Mulligan is the single mom he chooses to foolishly fall for, "Mad Men" redhead Christina Hendricks plays against type as a trashier pawn of sorts, and Albert Brooks (the comedian) is the straight-faced villain. Refn won the Best Director prize at Cannes back in May, which is no small feat and essentially guarantees "Drive" will be a powerhouse of stylized machismo. So, my favorite genre. Just look at that font and tell me you aren't hooked! It opens September 16, which is SO CLOSE.
