Hard Going

This morning we cycled the Cathedral route.  No church in sight but the towering trees that create a vaulted, ethereal illusion as we cycle through.  It was very warm and sunny until we dropped down into the valley bottom and suddenly the temperature was icy.  We cycled past the ancient little house next to the mill pond, it looks idyllic in summer but it must get very dank and cold in the winter.

I am still struggling to get any pace at all.  I keep blaming my bike (I do this every year), I was convinced my brakes were stopping my wheels from going round this morning.  We are like the hare and the tortoise, Paul shoots ahead and then has a kip on the verge waiting for me to catch up.  It is very frustrating; last year I was able to keep up with him except for the steeper hills and it felt like we were cycling in unison.  It’s not going to be the same if we are cycling separately.  I must persevere, it’s early days.

On a more positive note I have just saved a lizard from drowning in the dogs’ water bowl.
