HOME TOUR: A SMALL COTTAGE UPDATED WITH COLOR AND PATTERN

Ruth Stolerman, a UK interior designer, and her husband purchased a dilapidated cottage, with holes in the outside walls and rodents running around, and transformed it into a modern cottage using color and pattern.

Kitchen-Dining Area

Typical of old cottages, the downstairs consisted of a series of small rooms, which Ruth opened up into one front to back space.

She was also able to add a small extension to the area, which made room for a small dining area.

Geometric patterns on the floor and backsplash add a modern vibe to this light filled space.

I love the ladder shelves.

Living Room

As the living room is an extension of the kitchen and dining area, the yellow and blue theme is continued here.

In a small space, trunks are a good way to utilize your space for extra storage.

Office Space

Even in a small space a desk and chair can create a cozy office space. The owners used items from their previous home in Hong Kong to achieve a modern look.

I love how the desk lamp pulls the look together.

Master Bedroom

I love the juxtaposition of the old brick with the new white walls and skylight in the loft bedroom conversion.

Mid century style side tables give a farmhouse touch to the room.

Guest Bedroom

The guest bedroom really pops with color and once again the owner has mixed modern colors and chevron curtains with the original Victorian style fireplace.
