The fan-favorite icon of the Emmy-winning reality competition series (real name D.J. Pierce) brought the house down Thursday night at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, where she performed a high-energy medley of Beyoncé hits at the LGBT-focused awards ceremony as the Grammy-winning superstar (and husband Jay-Z) watched from the audience.  Kevin Mazur/Getty Images (2) Shangela's set included lip-synced renditions of hits like "Partition" and "***Flawless" paired with intense choreography as she rocked a glistening fringe leotard and a bouncy wig in honor of Beyoncé, who attended the event to accept the the Vanguard Award for LGBT advocacy. Social influencer Raymond Braun — who previously appeared as a guest season 10 of RuPaul's Drag Race — shared a partial recording of Shangela's performance on Twitter, capturing footage Beyoncé clapping along as the drag legend worked the room. Later in the evening, after Beyoncé and Jay-Z received the Vanguard Award, the former expressed appreciation for Shangela's tribute. "I'm just super honored and overwhelmed. I've already cried," Beyoncé told the audience. "I put a run in my stocking from Shangela!" In addition to stealing the show at the GLAAD Media Awards, Shangela has become one of the most successful Drag Race alums in recent years. In addition to landing a supporting role in last year's blockbuster Best Picture nominee A Star Is Born as Lady Gaga's drag mother, she also appeared in an episode of Broad City's fifth and final season, appeared across three episodes of Alyssa Edwards' Netflix docuseries Dancing Queen, voiced a lead character on season 1 of Netflix's animated comedy Super Drags, and helped front the cast of fellow Drag Race star Bianca Del Rio's full-length feature Hurricane Bianca 2: From Russia with Hate. U2? - NOLA.com Posted: 30 Mar 2019 11:34 AM PDT Now that the Rolling Stones have canceled their 2019 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival show, who can deliver an emotional rescue? It will take a big name - Beyoncé, Bruce Springsteen and U2 come to mind - but after all the buildup, it's not clear anyone can fill the Stones' shoes. At the close of the 49th annual Jazz Fest in 2018, a buzz of anticipation arose among New Orleans music fans. The headliner for the 50th anniversary festival would have to be an act big enough to befit the milestone event in the country's most important music city. In January, when the festival management finally confirmed the long-rumored appearance by the Stones, hearts sang. Hearts sank Saturday (March 30), however, when the band announced the indefinite postponement of its North American tour, including the May 2 appearance at the Fair Grounds. The reason was 75-year-old Mick Jagger's need for an unspecified medical treatment. There are already scads of other fabulous shows on the Jazz Fest schedule, including Katy Perry, who is probably now the marquee act. Tom Jones, a 1960s British star in his own right, is already scheduled to appear May 2 and could certainly serve as the daily closer. And who knows, the Stones might reschedule in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome at a later date, as a sort of delayed Jazz Fest appearance. Are the Stones irreplaceable at this late date? Or does festival producer Quint Davis have any other cards up his Hawaiian shirt sleeves? Locally born pop diva Britney Spears has taken a hiatus to spend time with family, and Paul McCartney is already scheduled for a May show at the Smoothie King Center, so they're probably out. Could Crescent City-centric Beyoncé formulate an outdoor show in barely one month? Could post-Katrina Jazz Fest hero Bruce Springsteen pull a show together that quickly? Could U2 bring a spare version of its recent tour to Gentilly? Drake is in Las Vegas on May 4; what's he doing May 2? With only 33 days until May 2, it can't be long before we learn if a stand-in has stepped up. The star-studded ceremony took place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood with Black-ish actor Anthony Anderson hosting the show, which was televised live on TV One. Beyoncé was feted with the night's top honor, Entertainer of the Year, beating out Chadwick Boseman, LeBron James, Regina King, and Ryan Coogler. She made sure to acknowledge her fellow nominees while accepting the award. "I'm honored to be included among all of you and to part of a vital, thriving, beautiful community," she said. Black Panther took home the marquee Outstanding motion picture award, while Boseman was awarded the Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture honor and Letitia Wright picked up the breakthrough performance award for the Disney/Marvel film. On the TV side, ABC's Black-Ish led with a win for Outstanding comedy series, and acting awards for Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross. Power was named Outstanding drama series, with Omari Hardwick and Empire star Taraji P. Henson nabbing awards for acting in the drama series categories. "After a long career journey, tonight I stand before you as the first woman and the first African-American to chair the powerful U.S. House Financial Services Committee," she said. After taking a shot at President Donald Trump, the hip-hop mogul dedicated his award to the "beautiful women" in his life. "I grew up believing I could do anything, that I could accomplish anything because of those strong women in my house," he said. Radio legend Tom Joyner, host of the long-running Tom Joyner Morning Show, was honored with the Vanguard Award. During his acceptance speech, he announced that after 25 years on the TJMS "at the end of this year I'll be retiring from the radio." "But the Tom Joyner Foundation will go on, and on, and on, to help students stay in school at historically Black colleges and universities," he added. There were also several humorous moments, including when Chris Rock mocked embattled Empire actor Jussie Smollett, who recently saw the 16 felony disorderly conduct counts against him dropped by Chicago prosecutors. | NAACP Image Awards 2019: The Complete Winners List - TheWrap Posted: 30 Mar 2019 06:07 PM PDT  The 50th Annual NAACP Image Awards were handed out on Saturday night, with "Black Panther," ABC's "Black-ish," the Starz drama "Power" and Beyonce going home as the night's big winners. Beyonce took home the night's big prize for Entertainer of the Year, matching her husband, Jay-Z, who was the previously announced recipient of this year's President's Award. Congresswoman Maxine Waters received the NAACP Chairman's Award, bestowed "in recognition of individuals who demonstrate exemplary public service and use their distinct platforms to create agents of change," and radio host Tom Joyner took home the NAACP Vanguard Award.
