Wycon Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick Review and Swatches

Liquid lipsticks have been all the rage in the past year and I am personally a huge fan of the matte finish and velvety look they give. Therefore I'm always hunting for the best, most long lasting fomulas out there and couldn't pass on these widely praised Italian gems. I am talking about the Wycon Long Lasting Liquid Lipsticks, that were in my wishlist (here) for quite some time now. Wycon is an Italian beauty franchise, similar to Kiko, that offers affordable makeup in gorgeous brand stores that look like candy shops to a makeup addict like me. During my trip to Italy over the holidays (read my haul here) I picked up four shades of the liquid lipsticks and here are some swatches and first impression reviews.

Applicator of the Wycon Long Lasting Liquid Lipsticks
The Wycon Long Lasting Liquid Lipsticks come in transparent glass tubes (7 mL) that are shorter than the average Sephora or Kat von D liquid lipsticks, similar to the size of the new MAC Retro Matte liquid lip colors. This means that the applicator wand is somewhat shorter as well, which makes for a more controlled and easier application. The applicator itself is a classic doe foot applicator, which I don't think is the easiest or neatest one to use, but does its job decently. The applicator pulls out quite a bit of product from the tube, so I prefer to wipe some off on the neck of the tube before applying the lipstick to prevent inhomogeneity, especially on the edges. Another option is to apply the liquid lipstick to the center of the lips first to get rid of the excess before drawing the edges with less product, but I prefer the first option.

The formula of the Wycon Long Lasting Liquid lipsticks is on the moussey-side during application, thinner than the Sephora Cream Lip Stains, and dries to a comfortable matte finish over a period of about 5 minutes. So you have all the time to apply the product with no rush. The lasting power is not of the most outstanding, but these matte liquid lipsticks stay put for at least 5 hours and will resist a simple meal without too much greasy food.

These comfortable matte liquid lipsticks come in 34 colors ranging from nudes to black and including reds, pinks, oranges, purples and any shade you can think of actually. The initial range on classic shades was recently increased to include more edgy shades such as a blue, a brown, a purple and a black. Some popular shades like the darker and vampier reds and burgundies are always sold out, as well as some of the nudes. I picked up four shades, three of which I ordered online and one in stores. Due to a lack of swatches online, I didn't know what to expect from my online order, but I'm very happy with the shades I got. I have added to the post swatches both on my lips and on my arm. The lighting in the pictures is a bit inconsistent and that makes it difficult to balance perfectly the pinks and oranges but i did my best to show the shades the closest to real life.

From the original shade collection I have n.08 Sangria and n.14 Arancio. The first one is a muted berry shade that is perfect for everyday and I have nothing like it in my collection. The second is called Orange (in Italian) and is the shade I picked in store for its beautiful bright orangey-red hue. I compared it with the other orange shades I own in the photo below. It is brighter and more red-toned than MAC Chili; L'Oréal Collection Privee Douzend's Red and Rimmel by Kate n.12 are completely different shades of orange, whereas the closest is L'Oreal Caresse 200 which is a gloss so isn't as opaque.

The shade I was most excited about and which sold out within a few days from the launch is 28 Mandorla, a warm nude that is so popular these days with everyone, myself included. Infact you can see from the swatches of comparison below, I have quite similar shades but MAC Retro is darker, Wet n Wild Sandstorm is more brown. Gerard Cosmetics French Toast and 1995 lipsticks are the closest to Mandorla (almond in Italian). This shade is my ideal everyday work lipstick that is not too brown and not too pink, and I have worn it a lot lately getting comments on it telling me it makes me look sweet (hihihi).
The final shade I own is n.30 Mattone which I expected to be, as the name indicates, a brick-red shade. However, it is a bright strawberry shade that is quite close to the Sephora Cream Lip Stain 03 Strawberry Kissed (review and swatches here) but slightly more muted. Even though I was a bit disappointed not have found a dupe to Ofra's Miami Fever liquid lipstick (sigh), I am quite happy with this shade and I'm pretty sure I'll get a lot of use out of it in the spring and summer.

So here were my first impressions, swatches and comparisons of the Wycon Long Lasting Liquid Lipsticks in the shades Sangria, Arancio, Mandorla and Mattone. Priced at 6.90€ they are a great option for everyone who loves a matte lip. They are available in all Wycon physical stores around Europe as well as online at wyconcosmetics.com, though they ship to Italy only for the time being. Swatches of more shades are available from the gorgeous and talented Sabina on 10 Ways to Wear Makeup here.
