| Review | Hourglass Vanish Blush Stick
Cream cheek products have been all the rage in the past few years and as a glow chaser and dry skin type, I'm all for it! Hourglass is jumping on the train with their own version of cream blush sticks, which I'm actually shocked they haven't come out with these earlier. Considering they have a foundation stick and highlighter stick already in this range, it's natural that they would move forward with a blush stick. Given my weakness for all things creamy and glowy, I had to order these immediately!
The Hourglass Vanish Blush Stick retail for $46.00 USD and are available at Sephora and other reatilers. These blush sticks are housed in a gold triangular twist stick, that is iconic for their Vanish range. The unique triangular shape adds more to the aesthetic than to the actual function of this product. The packaging is a lightweight plastic that is easy to travel with.
SHADES
This cream blush range comes in 6 shades that range from a soft peach to a vibrant berry. Now, Hourglass has gone under fire lately for their lack of shades. While this shade range is relatively small, there are colors to suit a wider range of skin tones. Is it enough? That's for you to decide. Personally, a few more shades really wouldn't hurt because not all these shades are universal. I purchased three shades to test out, which all look similar in the tube but are actually different on the skin.
Wonder - This shade is a soft warm peach shade with a medium tone. I often find peach shades to be too light for a medium skin tone but this one is more medium in tone, which makes it suitable for more skin tones. It doesn't have a pastel look to the shade but instead, it has a nice almost-golden warmth that makes it flattering to all skin tones.

Loyal - This shade is the most neutral of all these shades. It's a warm rosy brown shade that will suit a wide range of skin tones. This is a blush shade that will suit any look or lip color. This is great for when you want some color on the cheeks but you don't want it to be so apparent you're wearing blush.

Devoted - This shade is a warm dusty rose shade. The pink in this blush is there but it is more muted and blended with a neutral tone, which makes it very wearable for many skin tones. I often find some pink or rose shades to have too strong of a pink tone, which can look stark on a medium to deeper skin tone. The muted color of this rose makes it flattering to all skin tones, providing a very natural-looking flush.

FORMULA
This formula is very pigmented and creamy. You really don't need a lot of the product to get a noticeable flush. I recommend starting with a little bit and just building up the intensity to suit your taste. The texture is creamy but I wouldn't call it emollient. It doesn't have that really wet or glossy texture you associate with a product being emollient. This also contributes to the finish of these blushes, which is more of a soft matte or satin finish on the skin.
These blushes look extremely natural and skin-like on the complexion. Since the finish is so skin-like, you get a real, from-within-looking flush. Also, the satin finish of these blushes plays well with all skin types. If you have oily skin and have always avoided cream products, you need to try this formula because the formula will not enhance your natural "glow". While the finish is more matte, it isn't a dry cream and it doesn't look cakey on the skin or pick up on texture. It emulates a powder blush but in cream form.
This formula blends very easily but it also stays where you put it. With more emollient formulas, you can get migration of the product throughout the day but this formula stays put where you place it. It also has a wonderful thin texture that fuses with the skin, so it doesn't look or feel like there is anything on the skin. It is also creamy without feeling slippery, which means the formula isn't silicone-heavy like many other brands that offer a more matte cream blush. This one feels almost like a cream to powder formula but it still maintains the look of a cream.
Since the finish is so natural on the skin and it doesn't have a glossy texture, it doesn't pick up on texture or pores on the skin. This formula wears really well as long as you're not rubbing or touching your cheeks, it lasts about 6 to 8+ hours on the skin. This wear time will also depend on your skin type and the climate you're living in. For a cream blush, I would say this formula has a great wear time and you should expect some fading with a cream formula. They aren't designed to last throughout the day without signs of wear.
THE LOOK
I am wearing Loyalty on my cheeks and you can see it looks very natural and skin-like.
FINAL THOUGHTS
There are many cream blush formulas out there but the finish of these cream blushes is very unique in formula and finish. I wouldn't normally gravitate toward a more matte cream blush because of my dry skin but this one has such a soft and natural finish. It really fuses with the skin and actually mimics a true flush! It doesn't emphasize texture, dryness, or pores. It still offers color and freshness to the complexion without adding a lot of additional texture to the skin, which makes it so versatile for a wide range of skin types. I love the way these blushes apply, blend, and wear. I really do find that this formula is one of the most versatile cream blush formulas that I have ever tried! I really cant' recommend it enough! I would like to see a wider range of shades but I understand that during an initial launch, there will be a limited shade range. I really hope that Hourglass will continue to develop more shades in this range and maybe even some bronzer sticks too? Here's hoping! While it's pricey, I think this is a formula everyone can love and enjoy! I'm very impressed by these cream blushes!
